Since the global pandemic almost six years ago, there’s been a wonderful rise in small businesses and self-employment. More people are taking the leap to follow their passions, and that’s something truly worth celebrating. It feels as though we’re seeing the return of local enterprise, that beautiful, personal connection between people and their communities.
There’s something truly special about that sense of belonging you get from knowing the people around you, the friendly faces in your local community, the small businesses that care about their customers, and the genuine connections built through simple, everyday interactions. It’s that feeling of familiarity, conversation, and mutual support that creates real community.
I’ve always found people fascinating. Different stories, different backgrounds, and different paths all coming together, that’s what makes life interesting. I’ve also always held dear the people in my own life, from family to friends, and I believe that sense of community is what keeps us grounded. Building genuine relationships and supporting one another is at the heart of everything I do, and it’s a big part of what inspired Sparrow and Story.
Now, with all the technology available to us, we have the opportunity to bring that spirit back in a modern way. Small businesses can thrive online without being overshadowed by the big corporations that seem to dominate every market. After all, we all need to spend money on one thing or another, and wouldn’t it be wonderful if more of that money went towards supporting real people and local communities instead of faceless brands?
Of course, the challenge is getting your voice heard above the noise. Big companies have huge budgets for large-scale marketing campaigns, while many small business owners are trying to juggle everything themselves. Deciding whether to focus on digital marketing, or where best to invest your money in more traditional marketing efforts, can feel daunting and time-consuming, especially when you’re already wearing ten different hats as a self-employed person or business owner.
That’s exactly why I started Sparrow and Story, alongside my ever-supportive and knowledgeable fiancé, Paul, who has been there to help bring the idea to life. We want to help individuals and businesses cut through the noise in a cost-effective, accessible, creative and human way. No unnecessary jargon, no gatekeeping, just friendly, practical support that helps you and your business flourish.
We also believe in empowerment. That means giving you the tools, skills, and confidence to understand your own digital presence so you’re not dependent on anyone else to tell your story. We’re here to guide you, not to hold the keys.
Sparrow and Story is my way of combining everything I care about — people, creativity, and connection. It’s about helping others find their voice and confidence, while also keeping alive that sense of community I’ve always treasured. My hope is that through every project, every conversation, and every story told, I can help others feel a little more inspired and a little less alone in their journey.
